Plus a chance to win a $1,000 The Home Depot Gift Card [From the Parent Life Network]
Having littles means there is always something needing fixing in your home. Do the job right the first time with a visit to The Home Depot Canada.
You know, your house is never truly a fixer-upper until you have kids. When my husband and I bought our first home, we saw potential, not an outdated kitchen and bathroom. Moving in with a young baby and another on the way, you would think we would know better than to buy a home that required a lot of work, but instead we just became close friends with the good folks at the Home Depot.
One of the first things we wanted to do in our first home was to paint our daughter’s room and the nursery for our baby-to-be. Luckily all it took was one look at the baby in our cart for the paint associate to point out the Behr Paint & Primer in One that would not only save us time, but also was safer for our family being low VOC. You could tell they understood what we needed even better than we did when they pointed it out it also had stain blocker. “Stains? What are those?” said no parent ever.

Of course just because you paint once doesn’t mean that your kids won’t try to destroy your work one dirty handprint at a time. Your best defence is a good offence, and in this case it’s making sure you get high-traffic paint so those pesky prints come right off. But with my crop of creative kiddos, I still found myself having to turn to the experts to help match the exact shade of my living room after my preschooler so kindly redecorated for me.
Having kids means that not only are you constantly fixing up the inside of your house, but the outside as well. Keeping our little ones safe meant that our falling down fence needed an upgrade. In our family with the kids outnumbering the parents, the backyard was our haven, so getting that big job done as efficiently and safely as possible was a priority. Of course our family practically lived at the Home Depot during that upgrade. From picking the best fence boards to getting the best advice on how to get the job done right, we found ourselves spending many weekends with our orange-aproned extended family.
The Home Depot helped us with not only the planned projects, but the unplanned ones as well. Owning a home means owning the appliances too, and it wasn’t long until our dryer conked out. Of course it happened when we were two kids deep doing multiple loads a day. Luckily we knew that we were covered buying a new set at the Home Depot. Not only were we able to find our dream set at a great price, we were able to get an extended warranty to cover us in case of any mishaps in the future.
The best part is knowing that we are raising girls who aren’t afraid to pick up a hammer, paint a wall and most of all, get the job done.
Now that my kiddos are older, they are able to get in on the action. From learning the basics at the Home Depot’s Saturday morning workshops to helping us build a bigger deck in our new home, a trip to the Home Depot is never far from our plans. The best part is knowing that we are raising girls who aren’t afraid to pick up a hammer, paint a wall and most of all, get the job done.
