Easy Family Halloween Costume Ideas

Written by Julie Jensen
Halloween Costumes

You’ve seen those darling, hilarious, and straight up awesome family Halloween costume ideas online. You think to yourself, “Oh if only my family would be game for it.” Mostly, probably, your husband is the major stumbling block with this. But having that Halloween dress-up family memory is totally worth it, so here are some tips to get him on board!

  • Have him be part of the theme decision
  • Find options where his costume can be very minimal
  • Bribery
  • Compromise
  • Pleading/Begging
  • Nagging (This should probably be a last resort)

Halloween is a big deal to me because I love dressing up in costumes. It’s my dorky quirk (one of many) that my husband has just had to get used to over the years. Thankfully, he has proven his love to me by co-operating year after year in dressing up with me. My children haven’t found out yet that they can decide what they want as their costume, which is a huge bonus for having wee one’s!

Many of you may already have your costumes all figured out. But just in case, here are some last minute fun family Halloween costume ideas that I have used over the past few years.

The Grinch and Max
Family size: Pregnant couple
Costume supplies:
1 – Santa suit, green face paint, green leggings
2 – Dog costume, antler, string
Why it’s awesome: A Santa suit is extremely comfy for a pregnant Momma. And, well, it’s hilarious.
Shepherd, Wolf and Sheep
Family size: Couple plus 1 small child
Costume Supplies:
1 – Shepherd costume (mostly sheets, small rope, staff)
2 – Wolf costume
3 – Lamb costume
Why it’s awesome: A lamb costume for an infant is adorable and the parent costumes are easy to find or throw together.
